Manual Therapy

What is Manual Therapy?

Manual therapy is a technique we utilize that consist of specific, hands-on techniques used to manipulate or mobilize your skin, bones, and soft tissues. This therapy is often used in conjunction with other activities to increase movement and reduce pain. Our therapists have additional certifications that identify them as having advanced training in this type of therapy. When we use manual therapy, our practitioners use physical pressure with their hands to manipulate joints and muscle tissues. This results in a decrease in pain, increase in mobility, and a return to a healthy body. If you experience pain and stiffness somewhere in your body, our manual therapy methods can often be helpful.

Different Methods of Manual Therapy

Manipulation - This method uses rotational, shear, or distraction forces that usually associate with soft popping sounds (caused by the breakdown of gas bubbles).

Mobilization - This method is a slower, deliberate process of articular and soft-tissue stretching that we use to improve bio-elasticity.

Massage - Massage is a type of manipulation, which uses repetitive rubbing and/or kneading of tissues.
